Jean Orelien, DrPH, MStat
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Orelien founded SciMetrika, LLC in 2001. He has more than a decade of experience as a senior statistician and project manager on projects funded by agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services. He is an expert in the development of sophisticated statistical programs, the utilization of statistical methods to analyze epidemiological data, survey analysis, and the use of SUDAAN and SAS software. Dr. Orelien received his doctorate of public health in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master of statistics from North Carolina State University. He has authored a number of technical and scientific papers and presentations and is a member of the American Statistical Association and the American Public Health Association.
Lisa B. Lipscomb, MA, PHR, GPHR
Chief People Officer
As the Chief People Officer, Ms. Lipscomb is charged with aligning people development initiatives with business strategy, and directs all efforts to recruit, develop and retain top talent. She has more than 17 years of experience in human resources management in industries including finance, manufacturing, engineering, and staffing. Her commitment to deploying technology and streamlining operational processes is geared towards facilitating rapid growth and increased profitability. Ms. Lipscomb received her master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and her bachelor of science degree in psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA. She also has earned PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and GPHR (Global Professional in Human Resources) certifications.
Kathleen Schindler
Chief Development Officer
As Chief Development Officer, Ms. Schindler crafts strategies and implements programs to expand SciMetrika’s client base, penetrate new markets and increase market share. She has over 20 years of experience supporting client relations, marketing, business development, acquisition integration, and operational activities in government contracting companies operating in the public health domain. Ms. Schindler's recent positions include Director of Marketing, Global Health at SRA International, Inc, and Director of Marketing, Public Sector at Constella Group, LLC. She received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and is a member of the Healthcare Business Women's Association and the American Marketing Association.
John Dorries, PMP
Senior Director of Program Management Office
As Senior Director of SciMetrika's Program Management Office (PMO), Mr. Dorries oversees the development and consistent implementation of project management principles, standards and procedures across the organization. He has over 20 years of experience managing large healthcare programs involving complex project portfolios, establishing PMOs to align projects with corporate strategic goals, and coaching managers in the predictable and repeatable use of project management tools and techniques. His recent positions include senior management positions at Booz Allen Hamilton where he led healthcare projects and programs for the National Institutes of Health, Veterans Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration. Mr. Dorries received his bachelor of arts degree in environmental writing from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Shirley Arvey
Director of Health Solutions
As Director of Health Solutions, Ms. Arvey is responsible for managing SciMetrika's portfolio of projects and generating new business. She helps to shape the strategic direction and technical implementation of programs related to health information technology, management consulting and technical assistance. Ms. Arvey has more than 19 years of experience in improving business processes, re-engineering programs as well as developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for building revenue, reducing costs and improving operational efficiency and quality. Prior to joining SciMetrika, she served as a Program Manager at Booz Allen Hamilton and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Ms. Arvey served 15 years at Delta Airlines in roles of increasing responsibility on projects involving technology re-engineering and integration, business process improvement and strategic marketing initiatives. She received her bachelor degree in Management Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT). Her Six Sigma Black Belt certification also was earned at GIT.
Michael Samuhel, PhD
Director of Population Health Sciences
As Director of Population Health Sciences, Dr. Samuhel manages SciMetrika's project portfolio and generates new business. He has 29 years of experience as a senior research executive, statistician, and researcher working in the areas of public health and health information technology. He has been responsible for supervising large research groups at the division and center level, for managing the ongoing technical and financial performance of active projects and for forecasting current and future work, profitability, and labor utilization. Dr. Samuhel also has significant expertise in designing and conducting large scale health research studies. Prior to joining SciMetrika, Dr. Samuhel was the Director of Social and Scientific Systems' (SSS) Epidemiology Center. He has also held senior-level positions at RTI International and at the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago. Dr. Samuhel holds a doctorate in statistics from American University and was a Fellow in the National Science Foundation/Census Bureau postdoctoral fellowship program. He was elected to the Board of the North Carolina Health Information and Communications Alliance (NCHICA) and has continued to serve in this capacity since 2004.
Doryn Chervin, Dr.P.H
Vice President and Principal Scientist
As Vice President and Principal Scientist, Dr. Chervin will shape the growth path for senior technical staff, hone specific service offerings, and expand the company's portfolio of business. She is a seasoned executive leader with three decades of public health experience. She has directed or otherwise overseen more than 160 State or national program evaluations, policy assessments or evaluations, training projects, and research studies. Her experience includes public health planning and evaluation, health communication research, public health policy development and evaluation, and multisite evaluation. Dr. Chervin's work has a special emphasis on eliminating health disparities and addressing social determinants of health. Prior to joining SciMetrika, Dr. Chervin served as a vice president at both ICF International and Macro International, where she oversaw programs in the Public Health Research and Evaluation practice, and contributed to strategic corporate growth. She earned a master's degree in education, guidance and counseling from the University of Houston, and a doctorate in public health from the University of Texas School of Public Health.
